Housing and Minimum Wage

Today in my inbox, a CNN email sent a story reporting the concern I had from a few posts back about not being able to afford a decent place to live on my salary alone, yet being too rich to be able to get any help from public assistance.

This article says it all. I thought I might have been going crazy, but no, I really can’t afford to live by myself. And it’s not just me, it’s families all across the country. I don’t mean to get political here, but the President is proposing budget cuts that affect the low income families who need to be able to afford a place to live. I’m not even classified as “low-income” and I’m feeling the brunt of the housing situation here in America. There’s no affordable place to live that isn’t a dump. Really. There aren’t even affordable modest places to live, according to the report.

I mean, when these are the numbers… the minimum wage that Americans should be making to afford a decent place to live? Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour. Pretty sad, huh?
